Jammu, Mar 26 (KNO): In a shocking revelation, it has come to fore that a staggering 1. 66 lakh kanals of custodian land in Jammu & Kashmir are under illegal occupation, raising questions about effectiveness of the Evacuee Department’s to protect the land. In a written reply to a question of National Conference MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday revealed that a whopping 1. 66 lakh kanals of custodian land is under illegal occupation in J&K. Of which, 1, 62, 340 kanals are under illegal occupation in Jammu and 3983 kanals in Kashmir. The CM disclosed that only 4501 kanals of land have been retrieved from encroachers. Of which 2060 kanals have been retrieved in Kashmir and 2441 kanals in Jammu, he added. According to the CM, there are 1449406 kanals of custodian land in Jammu & Kashmir. Of which 1393446 kanals of land are in Jammu division and 55960 in Kashmir—(KNO)
